فلما ولد يحيى، وبلغ مبلغًا يفهم فيه الخطاب، أمره اللَّه أن يأخذ التوراة بجدٍّ واجتهاد بقوله: يا يحيى خذ التوراة بجد واجتهاد بحفظ ألفاظها، وفهم معانيها، والعمل بها، وأعطيناه الحكمة وحسن الفهم، وهو صغير السن.
